Center on Budget and Policy Priorities Comments on Financing Health Reform
Today the Senate Finance Committee held its third open roundtable discussion on national health reform. This week’s roundtable addressed the issue of financing health reform. Stakeholders in the health reform debate were invited to make comments at these roundtables in order to educate lawmakers.
Robert Greenstein, Executive Director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, submitted an extensive brief on financing health reform stating that discussing the financing aspect of health reform is critical, and emphasizing that all stakeholders – consumers, providers, insurers, and governments – will have to prioritize health reform and make sacrifices to achieve it.
And, if it is this important, then it is worth paying for. Moreover, given the deeply problematic fiscal outlook, we should pay for the upfront costs of health reform.
Included in this brief are several financing proposals that will help to guide the Senate Finance Committee as they write their health care legislation.
