I've worked with Medicaid recipients for over 30 years, as a Medicaid Eligibility Specialist and Medicaid supervisor for 27 years at the Department of Human Services, and now as a Case Manager for the CLASS program. I know first-hand how important the Medicaid program is to those who depend on it for their healthcare needs. I also know that the current system has a lot of problems, to include low reimbursement rates to healthcare providers resulting in a shortages of providers who will accept Medicaid. There are also a number of non-covered items that, particularly for adult Medicaid recipients, make it difficult to be able to get necessary services. I urge the legislature to strengthen the Medicaid program for the many, many people who depend on Medicaid, and not to consider making cuts that would have disasterous consequences for so many people.
