Texas State and Local Officials Support Health Reform
Texas state and local officials who support health reform are providing critical momentum to advocates’ efforts to build statewide support for health reform.
• In June, Representative Elliott Naishtat and Bexar County Commission Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez participated in a Health Care for America Now delegation to Washington, D.C. to meet with key members of the Texas Congressional Delegation.
• On July 25th, Organizing for America held a rally in Austin for health insurance reform which was hosted by Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Austin City Council Members Sheryl Cole, Bill Spelman, and Chris Riley. The event featured:
o State Senator Kirk Watson; and
o Former State Rep. Ann Kitchen
• This week, state Senator Eliot Shapleigh and Representative Garnet Coleman also issued statements urging Congress to forge ahead with health reform.
