Cover the Uninsured Week

March 23-27 is Cover the Uninsured Week!

Cover the Uninsured Week is project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to spread awareness and encourage action around federal health care reform.  Governor Rick Perry has officially declared March 22-28, 2009 as Cover the Uninsured Week in Texas in this statement and is encouraging all Texans to become educated and to act on critical health issues for our state.

As its debut, Texas Voice for Health Reform (TVHR) has organized five days of activities in which you can participate to promote the importance of national health care reform.

Monday, March 23: Get Connected & Spread the Word
Sign up to receive email updates from TVHR and link to the TVHR page on Facebook.  Then, share this email with your own networks, and encourage them to sign up, too.

Tuesday, March 24: Learn About Health Reform
Check out the brand new Texas Voice for Health Reform website! Read and distribute our newly-released Texas Voice for Health Reform Fact Sheet and Principles.  Be one of the first to read At the Brink:Trends in America’s Uninsured 1994-2007 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (release 3-24-09).

Wednesday, March 25: Host a Texas Voice for Health Reform Happy Hour
Invite your co-workers, friends and family to join you at your favorite local establishment to talk about health care reform and how you can mobilize your local community. Click here for our Happy Hour How-To.  Use this opportunity to prepare people to take action on Thursday, when Families USA will release its Texas portion of the report Americans at Risk: One in Three Uninsured and to share our TVHR fact sheet and principles.

Thursday, March 26: Write a Letter to the Editor
Families USA will release its Texas portion of Americans at Risk: One in Three Uninsured report. Use our template to create a letter to the editor to educate your community about the uninsured population and the importance of national health care reform.  (Materials will be forthcoming)

Friday, March 27: Communicate with Your Elected Representatives in Washington, D.C.
Call your members of Congress to let them know that health care reform is important to you. Use our talking points to frame your discussion, and let Kymberlie (quongcharles@cppp.org) know how it goes! (Materials will be forthcoming).
